Music conference to cross Congress picket line

A fledging music industry conference organized by the Morrissey Group - the Barrington-based owners of - will cross the Hotel Employees and Restaurant Employees (HERE) union picket line at the Congress Hotel later this month.

Billed as the Musician's Education and Career Advancement (MECA) conference and scheduled for May 12-15, the event will host panels, workshops and showcases for performers and biz types, according to its website. That site neglects to mention, however, that Congress Hotel employees have been on strike for nearly a year since management unilaterally and illegally slashed its workers' wages and health insurance.
