Weekend review

It was a big weekend in Chicago, with gigs from the Strokes, Talib Kweli, Sufjan Stevens (local debut), the Empty Bottle's Festival of Jazz and Improvised Music, the Bad Plus, the Fall and a whole lot more.

Our undisputed highlight was the Perceptionists (that's Mr. Lif, Akrobatik and Fakts One), who came off like a contemporary PE at last night's woefully underattended Def Jux showcase at the Logan Square Auditorium. Oh yeah: We snagged a copy of The Razor, a new mixtape from the three that's got us drooling for the full-length (due this fall).

What were your weekend raves/disses?

Update: Though Matthew Lurie's Trib review of the Def Jux showcase barely skims the surface, it's appropriately enthusiastic.
