SXSW post-mortem (& corporate mags still suck)

Posted by Lazlo Hollyfeld

So I've spent most of the last two weeks hibernating in my dorm closet lair, recovering from my Austin trip. But Mitch & Chris have been nice enough to toss some magazines in here while I'm hooked up to the rejuvenation machine.

Entertainment Weekly (no link provided, as they force you to subscribe to the mag to gain access to content on their website) saw fit to devote a full page to SXSW in their April 2nd issue. It's nice that they gave it some space, but it credits 6 writers? Doesn't that seem a bit much to fill the 3/4 of a page not taken up by photos?

I'll give you the quick rundown to save you the $3.50 (and the brain cell losses you'd incur flipping through the rest of the mag)...TV on the Radio, Franz Ferdinand & the Hives are given the standard hype the law requires mainstream media outlets to provide. But just below that is a pleasant surprise....Chicago's own Pelican & the Reputation both garner quick blurbs under the header "Bands That Should Generate Buzz".

The same issue also finds The Ponys' *Laced With Romance* awarded an A- grade in a capsule review.
